YOUNG GUNS IGNITE OIL

The Edmonton Oilers must be excited about what they have in Edmonton, the fans especially. After seeing the demolition of their team since the cup run in 2005-06 the Oilers have yet to make it back to the playoffs. The team has gone through 3 different coaches, Craig MacTavish, Pat Quinn, and Tom Renney. Last season the Oilers capped off their 3rd worst season in NHL History, only finishing with 62 points (their worst season was 1994-95 when they finished with only 17 wins and 38 points).
The Oilers this season have started off fairly well for their standards, they have themselves at 2-2-1 and their young guns have seemed to have found their stride in the NHL. The 2nd year players, Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall have been holding their own on the new look first line for the Oil.
The Great surprise of the season for the Edmonton Oilers is the play of young Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The young man from Burnaby, BC has started off on fire, scoring 4 goals and adding 1 assist in his first 5 games. That includes a hat-trick against defending President Trophy winners, The Vancouver Canucks. Although some may argue that it was infact Taylor Hall's 2nd goal of the season that gave Hopkins his hat-trick, the referee instantly pointed on Hopkins to indicate it was his first career hatty.
Most experts agreed before the season started the Oilers would give young Hopkins 9 games then send him back to Red Deer for some more conditioning and bulking up. The young man is only listed at 175 pounds but most people have him pegged at about 160 pounds. Regardless of his weight, the kid has amazing vision and we are likely to see him play in the nhl for many more years to come.
